Restoration of Books / Heritage / Education Programs
Beneath this tree is a place for sharing experiences and thoughts regarding my three main professional interests. These are,
(i) restoration of old books, and manuscripts
(ii) culture heritage
(iii) education programmes and interpretation of cultural and natural heritage
Welcome "Pod Bukem". Thank you for joining me.
My husband, Eoghan, is from the West coast of Ireland. He is helping me to create and to manage this website. The site is originally written in English, and can be easily translated into German, Czech and other languages. Please be understanding if the translation is not perfect. As Eoghan says, communication is more important than grammer!
Work Experience
I have been working with the "Cistercian Abbey Vyšší Brod" for many years, on the conservation of the historic library. I am currently also supporting the Cistercian Landscapes Programme, which promotes heritage awareness in the society and supports networking between cistercian monasteries in central Europe.
I have previously worked with the historic Clementinum Library in Prague on manuscript research. I also have restored precious books and manuscripts and artworks in my private studio.
Working with groups of children has always been my passion. I have wonderful memories of supporting the children of disadvantaged communities in Kosova, in 2000, as they returned to their homeland after the Balkan conflict (People in Need, and Multi Ethnic Coexistence).
And in 2001 / 2002 I lived in India, where I coordinated support for over 30 local agencies in Kolkata and West Bengal. These amazing organisations provided education, health, and social support to hundreds of thousands of street children, as well as rural communities which were impacted by natural disasters (GOAL India Office).
All of this work can be challenging, but the greatest reward is the sound of laughter, and the smiles of happy children. The future of our world "Under the Beech Tree" is in their hands!
